First Real OPTEX Blog / Ramble

OK, so here it is. OPTEX is going to blog about - tada - "Infrastructure". Take a few minutes to calm down before delving in. Deep breaths. Breathe in - breathe out (repeat as necessary). There you go. Good as new. Exciting stuff, so you need to keep a clear head. So the American Society of Civil Engineers gave the U.S. a grade of D for our country's overall condition in 2009. Ouch. And they're a society of professional engineers who presumably grade on a curve to keep things fairly stable. No dice. We're crumbling like a poorly made bundt cake. So here's how the fine folks at OPTEX view this. Infrastructure encompasses many things (hence the term infrastructure - just a tad ambiguous). But we would imagine that fixing up our major stuff (bridges, roads, dams, railways, public transportation, water supplies, existing energy systems, waste systems, drinking water, parks, gas mains, waterways, and on and on) would not be an overall bad idea. In fact it's been done before by a few bit players like Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower to pretty good effect. Look it up - it's true. And the amazing thing - JOBS!!! Who would have thought. Seems like a few of us might want a piece of that action right about now. And it does seem to be happening on many levels - national, state, local and crazy but lovable people in their basements risking bodily harm by electrocution or worse.

So what does that have to do with this blog. Shameless promotion of course (in addition to being dedicated to being good citizens and generally fun to work with). The main areas that are ripe for - um - ripening - seem to be engineering improvements, energy optimizations, auditing and management, environmental consulting, testing and remediation, new and clean energy resource development, municipal and organizational budgeting optimization and many other more obscure but beneficial services and products. And very importantly, bringing "Green IT" (oh no - buzz-word!!! subtract a few points for that) and many software applications to our era with a vengeance on all of these areas. Frankly, that's what we do (and have always been doing). Big, medium, small - over 22 years of experience in a seemingly timely conglomeration of all of the above and ready to do stuff to help.

Call us :) We'll have lunch.
